Angelenos In Action (LA County Public Health)

Did you know that LA County Public Health ensures that all inspect over 30,000 restaurants and food facilities a year, making our food safter to eat. Yeah...I didn't know either which is why our team helped them come up with solutions to get people in LA to take part in sharing their health.

Our project partner is the Acute Communicable Disease Control (ACDC) Program at the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LACDPH). ACDC works to reduce the incidence and impact of communicable diseases through prevention, real-time surveillance, outbreak response, and policy development. The program monitors over 60 diseases, investigates outbreaks, and develops procedures to protect public health.

In response to the challenges of tracking respiratory illnesses like COVID-19, especially as many people use home testing or don’t seek formal care, LACDPH launched Angelenos in Action, a community-powered public health surveillance system. This initiative recruits volunteers across LA County who receive short weekly surveys via text or email about their health. Their anonymous responses help identify illness trends early, enabling timely and equitable public health responses.
